Roof Warranty Guide
Separate the product warranty from workmanship and any enhanced system coverage.

Understand which part of the roof the warranty covers
Roof warranty language describes different responsibilities. A manufacturer warranty addresses covered product issues under its terms. Workmanship coverage addresses installation under the installing contractor’s agreement. Enhanced coverage is a distinct product with its own eligibility.
The applicable document, exclusions, transfer rules and required maintenance determine coverage. A long headline term alone does not explain what a repair would cost or who handles it.

Different roof warranty categories
- Product coverage
Read the actual product terms for covered defects, exclusions, proration and remedy. Material coverage does not automatically include every labor or tear-off cost.
- Workmanship coverage
The installing contractor defines the workmanship agreement. Its duration, covered work, exclusions and claim process belong to that agreement.
- Enhanced system coverage
Some manufacturer programs require an eligible installer, specified components and registration. A product name by itself does not establish enhanced coverage. GAF’s warranty comparison illustrates the separate categories; the applicable product’s full terms control.
Conditions that matter after the work
- Repairs and alterations
New penetrations, equipment changes or later work can affect a roof and its coverage. The applicable terms establish any notice or approved-repair requirements.
- Leaks and cause
A leak is a symptom. Covered product failure, installation issues, storm damage and maintenance problems can fall under different responsibilities.
- Ownership changes
Transfer rules and deadlines vary by agreement. The warranty documents establish whether and how coverage moves to a new owner.
